Choosing the Right Brake Pads

If you’re having trouble with your brakes then it’s time to take your car into your local West Valley brake repair company. Unfortunately brakes aren’t considered a wear item so they aren’t covered by warranty. Although brake repair is often expensive, for your own safety you shouldn’t put off taking your vehicle into a West Valley brake repair company.

The average cost of a brake repair is over $120, and that’s if you only need to change the front brake pads. It is a good idea to know the parts of the brake system so you can communicate with your mechanic. It is especially important to know the quality of the materials used in your brakes so that you can understand your options when it comes time to replace parts in your brake system.

Knowing a little bit about your brake system can help you sort out what the service writer (the person behind the counter) is talking about as they explain what needs to be fixed or replaced. There are a lot of good places on the Internet where you can find out some good information about acomplia purchase brakes. Two of my favorite places on the Internet to learn about brakes are howstuffworks.com and YouTube.

Semi-metallic is what the inexpensive pads are made out of. They can contain anywhere from 35-60% metal and quality in this category ranges from the cheapest to the most expensive carbon fiber ones. This is what your local West Valley brake repair garage will usually put on (the cheaper ones that is).

Next on the list is the organic. And no we’re not going green, although you can brag about it if you want. The advantage of organic is that they are quieter, but on the downside they wear faster.

Low Metallic is last on our list. They are a mix between semi-metallic and organic. They are a bit noisier than the organic but will also last a bit longer.

These are the type your local West Valley brake repair facility will likely use. They usually put inexpensive semi-metallic pads on your vehicle. If they do a large number of brake jobs they usually will select a pad that is inexpensive and doesn’t squeak. But you can ask them to put different pads on if you want a higher quality pad that will last longer.

The next type are organic brake pads, they are quieter than semi-metallic pads but will wear at a faster rate. Low metallic brake pads are a happy medium between the two. Ceramic is the last group I’ll mention, they offer great performance, are quiet and are generally just a tad cheaper than the carbon fiber semi-metallic type. No matter which ones you choose, know that you have options and can ask your repair facility for help choosing the best type of pads for your vehicle.
