The Early Bird Doesn’t Always Catch The Best Car Rental Deals

Monday, August 30th, 2010

No matter where you look to gain information about vehicle rental issues the advice is always the same, book early to save money. While this is usually the rule and it is always a good idea to have a vehicle booked well in advance of your travel you may find that booking early can actually wind up costing you more. There can be savings in last minute car rentals.

Now if your travel falls at a popular time like around a holiday you probably won’t find any last minute deals. Even if you have already made a reservation it is always a good idea to shop around again just a few days before you are traveling to recheck the rates online. You may just find that the rates have dropped significantly since the time frame when you made your reservation with good reason.

Car rental companies base their rates on the number of cars that they anticipate renting during a specific time period. When they are only a few days away from a weekend and they still find that they have a lot of cars still available they will attempt to cut the rates significantly to try and get all their vehicles rented out. A car that is sitting on the lot is not bringing them in any money so even if they rent this vehicle to you at a discount they will be making more than just allowing that vehicle to sit.

This is why checks anywhere in the last minute can be for their benefit. Most reservations can be canceled without charge 24 hours in advance, so this still allows you to change your reservation without penalty. If you find the company you have booked with has lowered their rates then ask them to give you the lowest fare. Some can do to cancel the original booking and then re-book while others only change the interest rate on the reservation. Either way you will find that the savings you receive is well worth the extra effort.

Last minute reservations can save you money but not always. It is still the best idea to make your initial reservation well in advance and then rearrange it at the last minute if you find a better deal. Getting the best deals may require a little bit of patience but in the end if you get that rental vehicle for less you will be a happy camper.

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class A Luxury 4WD

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

In a nutshell, the Mercedes-Benz M-class range consists of a diesel-powered ML270 CDi, the 3.7-litre ML350, the top of the range 5.0-litre V8 ML500 and an AMG-fettled, super aggressive 5.4-litre ML55 AMG.
All M-class Benzes are built on the same basic 5-door 4WD wagon architecture, which dimensionally plonks the off-roader in the mid to large 4WD categoryThere’s plenty of features and equipment, even on the base model, as you’d expect from the three-pointed star. All models have 17inch alloy wheels — the ML55 AMG gets 18s — tinted glass and colour-coded bumpers.

All models take electric windows and mirrors for granted, along with remote central locking, cruise control, CD stereo and climate control air conditioning. Step up to the ML500 and the equipment level increases accordingly, most notably with the Burr Walnut and leather interior. Power and heated front seats, a trip computer, anti-theft alarm system, Bose sound system and anti-dazzle rear-view mirror are all added.

The ML55 AMG raises the bar with satnav, glass sunroof, CD stacker and high intensity Bi-Xenon headlights and sports seats, along with a substantial AMG visual and performance makeover.

The big Benz provides seating for five adults with plenty of headroom and good rear legroom.. Boot space is in abundance, and should cope with most people’s everyday needs.

Driver comfort is good, without being great. The seat adjusts for distance, height and tilt, and the backrest reclines. The steering wheel is tilt adjustable but does not adjust telescopically.Quasi-dual zone climate control is fitted to all of the M-class models, and while it doesn’t allow rear seat passengers to dial up a different temperature to their front row compatriots, it does come with a separate blower and additional rear vents to aid airflow.

Passive safety features include 2 front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags in the front. Rear side airbags are only fitted standard to the ML55. All of the five seats have a lap sash seatbelt, only the outer four have force-limiting pretensioners.

All models are equipped with independent suspension and Mercedes-Benz’s 4-ETS four-wheel drive system, which utilises the brakes to reduce wheel-spin. It’s an electronic system in place of the more traditional mechanical diff locking systems, and its biggest weakness is in mud or soft sand where wheel-spin is often needed to get forward motion. A 5 speed automatic transmission with ‘touchshift’ sequential shifting is standard on all of the models, as is a foot-actuated park brake.

All models have four-wheel disc brakes equipped with ABS, and ‘All Season Tyres’ which reduces road noise compared to the coarser treaded tyres on the previous model Used Opel cars For sale Dublin or try visiting us at

Monday, August 16th, 2010

The summer months are always a popular time to rent a vehicle as many people are traveling with the family in tow and want to take with them a larger, more reliable vehicle. In an attempt to save wear and tear on their own car, many families opt to rent a mini-van or SUV for their family holiday making this a prime rental time and definitely a more expensive time, as vehicles are in a higher demand.

Around Christmas vehicles are also more expensive to rent. Many people prefer to rent a car for your holiday travel plans, either for the reasons listed above, or because they are concerned about the reliability of their vehicles every day during the coldest months of winter. In both cases, this is another time of year when prices of rental cars have increased due to increased demand.

Check out their online reputation if you are unfamiliar with them and also make sure that you contact the Better Business Bureau about the company and their website. Just because a website is well ranked on Google doesn’t mean that it is a legitimate business.

2. TREATMENT OF SECURE PAYMENT – Each time you make reservations online or pay for anything on the web, it is important to ensure that the site is safe. Usually a secure site to see the lock symbol in the page where you enter your credit card. Also, when you are booking your reservations make sure you’re doing with a credit card. While some companies may offer the possibility of a discount or even to pay with Paypal, do not fall for it. Paypal is a form of payment much less secure than using a real credit card.

Everything seems too good to be probably TRUE – If you are booking a rental car company in Australia or to make reservations for hotels in France, it is important to shop around and know the average prices for these services. When you are spending if you find a single quote that is well below the current rate then avoid it, this is probably a scam that aims to make you want to buy.

Images can be easily enhanced or may be several years ago so that when you are looking on the internet to keep in mind that images you are seeing may or may not be an accurate representation of the structure to be at.

The Volkswagen Touareg SUV

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

With a dashing, almost mega hot-hatch presence in the flesh, the Volkswagon Touareg is no less impressive under the skin. The basic structure of the vehicle is shared with the Porsche Cayenne As you’d expect in a vehicle of this calibre, much is made of the advanced passenger cell in terms of safety and as a twist-free foundation for top of the line suspension conponentry.

Utilising a mixture of aluminium and steel componentry, the Touareg’s suspension set-up is dual wishbone at each corner Delivering auto and manually adjustable damping and ride heights, the air suspension offers three modes and four speed-dependent ride heights. Clearance in 4WD mode is an impressive 300mm (237mm for steel spring versions), while at high speed the CDC-equipped Touareg settles to a sedan-like 180mm.

With over 3000kg (loaded) to pull up, even in the V6 version, the Touareg is well equipped in the braking department. Behind a range of 17-19-inch alloy wheels, all versions share large ventilated discs at each corner.
Arguably Volkswagen and Audi vie for the best interiors in the automotive world and the Touareg’s no exception. Even in basic V6 form the cabin has loads of cachet and materials are first class.

The Touareg’s drivetrain controls (low/high range and air suspension) are located next to gear selector on the centre console. It’s here also that the V10’s keyless ignition ‘go’ button sets everything in motionThe seats themselves are very firm with quite aggressive lumbar profiling
The Touareg gets the full complement of active safety features including antilock brakes with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and EBA (Emergency Brake Assist), stability/traction control (ESP and ASR), EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) and EBC (Electronic Braking ControlPanic stops on loose gravel were short, straight and fuss-free. In terms of passive safety the Touareg is up there with the bestThe standard complement of airbags number six and pedestrian protection measures have been incorporated.. In our opinion, if there’s one chink in the Touareg’s safety and usability armor it’s the use of a space saver spare.
