A single single-tracked vehicles on two wheels are called as motorcycles. Motorcycles come in three classes. These are the off-road motorcycles, street motorcycles and the dual purpose motorcycles. Motorcycles that are designed specifically for racing purposes are called off-road motorcycles. These are prohibited from transportation. Street bikes are what are commonly used for transportation. These again come under different sub-categories such as mopeds, cruisers, sport bikes and scooters. The dual purpose motorcycles are used for transportation as well as racing. Scooters come in different models. They are of many kinds. These are the electric scooters, motorized scooters, gas scooters, kick scooters and mobility scooters.

Scooters are classified as a category under motorcycles. They usually have smaller wheels, a foot-board, protective shield and step-through frame. Electric scooters are two or three wheeled scooters that use electric motors as a replacement for petrol or gasoline based motors. Their engines are energized by battery motors. Compared to gas scooters, electric scooters are low pollution motorcycles. The cost of recharging is lower when compared refueling with gas. The drawback of electric scooters is that these are slower and run shorter distance after which it has to be recharged. Recharging is done when it is plugged in. There are a number of models in the market. Some of these models are indeed cheaper than gas scooters.

A motorcycle having a foot board, step-through frame and protective leg shield is called a scooter. Amongst all categories of motorcycles, the scooters have smaller wheels. Mobility scooters, electric scooters, gas scooters, kick scooters and motorized scooters are further categories under scooters.
